The Star heralds bright hope and new prospects.
Bright hopes and fresh expectations! I’ve received this card twice as a daily support card recently, my first reaction was wow … great! but then I wasn’t sure what it really signified. Was there something I needed to be doing to encourage this motion I wondered, as I find our interaction and engagement with a tarot reading activates the full potential offered. What area of my life might the card be referring to specifically?
It does come after the Tower, which is when things come suddenly unstuck, apparently out of the blue, but in fact because the foundations, of an idea, a relationship, a situation were a bit dodgy. The tower has to collapse in order to rebuild and start over. Generally you can quickly build on firmer foundations as a result. So of course you’d expect the possibility of a fresh start after the Tower.
The Star, 17th card of the major arcana in a tarot reading portrays a peaceful moment in nature, the skies are blue and a bright star shines above a woman. She has come naked to the lake, trusting, hiding nothing, and pours water from two pitchers one into the lake , the other onto the ground. Symbolically she is pouring away the old way of life and blessing the earth in healing. The seven stars surrounding the bright star above her head represent the chakras and a time of alignment.
The star also relates to the north pole star; the star that leads you to your soul’s destiny.
An Ibis bird sits on a branch of a tree, the only one in the landscape surveying the woman and her ceremony. The Ibis bird is associated with the Egyptian god Thoth, bringing wisdom, magic and insight to the moment.
So maybe when you get the Star in a tarot reading it signifies we can invoke our future more consciously. And I’m all for ceremony to bring magic into life. Bright hopes and new prospects bring it on.
