Justice for when life feels a bit unjust….
I find Justice often appears in a reading when a client is feeling a sense of unfairness. We all know how it feels when we feel we have been judged unfairly, misunderstood, not respected, it can leave us feeling very upset, humiliated and angry.
This major arcana card shows someone in powerful red robes, holding a set of scales in one hand and the sword of truth in the other. She is trying to get the balance right between wanting justice without being vengeful. Yes we are holding up our sword of truth, using logic and reason, but to get to the truth of a situation we also need to balance compassion as well as fairness.
What is so special about Tarot and the advice of this card, is that we are being reminded that justice and fairness are only possible, when we temper our own reactions by using mercy to balance any severity in the judgments we make.
'‘The quality of mercy is not strained;
It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven
Upon the place beneath. It is twice blest;
It blesseth him that gives and him that takes:'‘
So often both sides think they are right and indeed both sides have their reasons. It is all too easy to stay ‘right’ by holding onto unfair assumptions in order to shore up our position and so what I think Justice is saying and why Portia’s words so beautifully express, it doesn’t serve us to hold onto our position too fiercely but rather when seeking justice and truth observe the situation with this kind of gentle balance and allow whatever hurt, injustice, humiliation, injustice be soothed and dissolved.
It blesseth him that gives and him that takes….
My Qi gong master might say let the energy of balance heal injustice.
Besides I like to believe Justice will prevail. So keep holding up your sword of truth but make sure the scales of fairness and respect are held as high in the other hand.
