Despite looking a bit scary the three of swords gives good advice.

With three swords sticking out of a red heart the card does look like heartbreak but it’s more about bringing wisdom to the heart so that you don’t break your heart.  .

When you receive this card in a reading it suggests that whatever it is you want (with all your heart) may take a bit longer to happen.

Absence delay separation are three words that go with the three of swords, so although not heartbreak the absence delay and separation from what you want may be a little beyond your comfort zone i.e. restraint may be needed as other factors may be involved, circumstances may need to play out before your heart’s desire can happen.

I’ve had this card in tarot readings with authors when they thought their manuscript was fully ready and expecting it to go to the publisher, people on the cusp of exchanging on a new home, and recently for myself as an advice card about an admirer, who was wining and dining me and showing all the signs of romance. Receiving the three of swords as an advice card was cautionary.

Like my friend the author who was so upset to hear there might be a delay in publishing….in her case the delay actually worked out better for the success of her book and it was a triumph, my advice was clear…don’t let your romantic desires run away with you and imagine you capturing his heart or him capturing yours any time soon.  Also with the three of swords remember things may be on hold for very good logical reasons

Sometimes the three of swords indicates a three month delay. It doesn’t mean give up. Because at the three stage in a tarot reading progress is being made.  The three represents Body Mind and Spirit, and it is from this triangle that there is basis from which to build.

Swords are about truth, so the card is just saying bring truth to the situation, observe your choices, let go of your expectations and the need to control, however don’t sabotage your chances of success by allowing negative thoughts to sneak in!  Bring truth to your heart.   OK things are going to take a bit longer than you thought but stay confident…it could all work out for the best. Like my writer friend.  It’s not fun getting the three of swords but I was very glad of the advice to hold back!  He didn’t call.  I was surprised, but thanks to the tarot not that surprised :-)

I’ll keep you posted. He rang.
