The Page of Swords and Justice - a two card reading

I wonder whether the two cards I pulled for myself today will have any resonance for you?

Take the higher ground and be Just. Be true to yourself and Fair to others. Find the balance.

First the page of swords, who stands on high ground, giving himself a bit of distance from things in order to gain perspective.  He stands sword in hand ready to set his mind to what he wants depending on what opportunity presents itself. He’s on the ready to be proactive, strategic even.

This card epitomises taking action at the appropriate time and imbues a sense of the need for alertness

Hmm I thought, tell me more, what is this about? And I pulled Justice.

A favourite card of mine as I primarily see Justice and finding the right balance in life between Being and Doing in the sense of finding the balance between holding up your sword of truth, standing in your own authority and at the same time holding the scales of justice of fairness or tolerance and compassion for others on the other.

In tarot readings I often point people to Rudgard Kipling’s poem ‘If’ written to his son.  It is a marvellous inspiration. And imbues me with the idea of being true to myself and fair and tolerant of others.  It imbues in me the idea that being true to yourself is all the ‘Justice’ we seek.  And the page of swords reminds me to be alert and proactive in this endeavour.  No laziness thank you.

Here's the poem minus two verses….

If you can keep your head when all about you

Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,

If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,

But make allowance for their doubting too;

If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,

Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,

Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,

And yet don’t look too god, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream – and not make dreams your master

If you can think – and not make thoughts your airm

If you meet with Triumph and Disaster

And treat those two imposters just the same

If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken

Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools

Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,

And stoop and build’em up with worn-out tools;

If you can fill the unforgiving minute

With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run

Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it

And – which is more – you’ll be a Man my son!

I’m inspired.  And immediately can see where in my life I might apply this timely message from the tarot.  Especially as I have a tendency not to speak up.  Here I feel I am being given a message to do so by combining authority with balance and kindness.

Do come and have a tarot reading with me in Battersea or online and we can discuss further.
