The Enjoyment of a tarot reading

Something not talked about about Tarot, is the enjoyment of having a reading. It is fun, intriguing, gives you lots of food for thought and hours of mulling over a meaning and finding deeper nuances that really feel right for you and bring nourishment. That is once you get past the fear of ‘bad’ cards and our preconceived ideas being challenged.

The Tower has been very prevalent in readings since the New Year and it makes me wonder whether this is going to be a year when we are forced to reassess our priorities, and what really matters, truths turned over and the world order challenged.

An example of the joy of mulling over a card for, now 10 days, is when you hit upon another relevant meaning that you didn’t see at first. The Five of Pentacles I discovered is about gratitude! Quite the other side of feeling left out in the cold, feeling distanced from friends (because they are married, having children, more successful…there are hundreds of reasons for times when we are at different stages of life and at these moments it is easy to compare ourselves negatively and draw away. I had also observed myself over the last few days in context of the five of pentacles and how my every day mood is a bit workaday, a bit going through the motions of the to do list. Not a lot of warmth and laughter inside. I know it is cold outside and literally snowing and therefore understandable that we are keeping ourselves to ourselves, however I was noticing an added low key mood.

This morning I woke and suddenly the feeling had flipped. I was feeling so grateful that at 8 am I wasn’t already dressed and on public transport going to work in this cold. I could return to bed with my electric blanket and a cup of coffee and write, meditate, do my energy medicine daily routine, for another hour and a half before the first appointment of the day. What luxury. How Lucky am I, I found myself saying over and over again. A complete flip from the day before.

In a reading yesterday a single mother had the Tower, the five of pentacles and four of in her spread. She was understandably worried about the future of her two year old daughter, not to mention her future, as she’d had to abandon her third year and was re doing it in 2024 without any support at all from the father of her child, who had abandoned her at 8 months pregnant. And then she picked an advice card and it was the nine of cups!

The man on the Nine of Cups looks decidedly satisfied with life….

Talk about a card that turned her preconceived ideas about how to behave upside down because the nine of cups is about making yourself happy. You just have to look at the satisfied expression on the chap in the card with his nine cups standing up behind him to think this chap knows how to enjoy life. Knows how to enjoy the perhaps superficial things of life, an ice cream, get on a swing with her daughter, be playful, indulge yourself, lighten up, enjoy the pleasures of life. Take silly photos of yourself with your daughter, have a laugh. As long as you are happy she will be happy. For my lovely client the nine of cups gave her some new ideas about how to counter her natural fear, anger, disappointment and the daily challenge. She was quite surprised by the reading and quite cheered up.

So you can see why I find having a tarot reading is so enjoyable for many.

Do come for a reading, I guarantee you will feel cheered afterwards. sueb
