The Chariot

On reflection waving my hands about trying to act horses bashing into each other was perhaps not my most eloquent Instagram post yesterday.   Pulling the Chariot card as our clarifying card to go with the stressy Nine of Swords perfectly describes what I and perhaps many of us are feeling.   And also offered good advice.

nine of swords and chariot reading

The Chariot is on a mission, its fast and furious, he’s trying to keep his horses heading in the right direction, which takes bravery courage and stamina….no wonder we are feeling stressed!

The skill of the charioteer is in being able to steer his chariot in the right direction while holding the reigns of two wild horses and trying to win a race.

He has to keep his eye on both horses and the pace is fast and furious, his skill is in keeping them heading in the same direction, at the same pace, side by side, without bashing into each other or taking him off course or worse turning over the chariot! His skill is dealing with all the adrenalin rush of  race and still keep control of his chariot as he shoots for the stars.  See the stars on the canopy above him.

It takes the brave and the strong.  And it takes stamina.

I think the metaphor works well for how a lot of us feel. Except in my case the pressure of everything I want to accomplish in a day leaves me feeling all over the place, no way am I steering my chariot in a straight line. I start the day with the best intention, full of drive and passion with this huge list of things to do and with the best intention to accomplish as much as I can in the day and end up feeling this underlying stress response to the challenge I suppose.

It all feels such a rush, such a pace, that I am charging at life…..it would be fine if at the end of the day I looked back and took a big sigh of satisfaction and say job well done.

But I don’t.

I think the Chariot is trying to tell us, life is a mission and ‘shooting for the stars’ is what life is all about however sometimes it is a fast and furious ride and can be exhausting. And with all that adrenalin and cortisol running through our bodies we feel all jangly in fight or flight mode.

Perhaps the Chariot is also saying, don’t allow your ‘wild horses’ to crowd each other, and bash into each other.  Keep them apart. Charioteers have the ability to approach life with a split beam and still keep on track. So perhaps the ‘star’s we are shooting for should be under separate headings.  Say work, personal development/enjoyment/health, friends, and everything else. And we find a way of running these desires side by side without one crowding out the other? Good luck with that everyone.

Do come and have a tarot reading with me in Battersea or online.  I think you’ll find it fascinating.
