Temperance for Blue Monday
Temperance for Blue Monday
How does the Tarot do that? Pick the perfect card for us to reflect upon on Blue Monday. The third Monday in January when the excitement of a new year has dissapated and instead we are daunted by a whole year in front of us, and already few of our new year resolutions are holding. The weather is cold and grey, day after day, and we’ve still got February to go through, which might be even gloomier.
We are given Temperance. The card that speaks of Patience. ‘All things come to those that wait’.
Temperance exemplified, Wilf and Riley wait with a wonderful air of expectancy hope and trust
Temperance speaks of a quality of patience and of waiting. Not ‘waiting’ as in hanging around while nothing happens…instead we actively cool the passions of our heart, the I want, I’m worried, I don’t like, doubts, fears, urgency, and instead hold an active attitude of patience with expectancy, patience with possibility. Instead actually being proactive we are being proactive in holding a receptiveness to what the world, the universe, divine guidance will bring. How many times have people said don’t rush to solve a problem, leave it for a day or two and it will solve itself. And so often it does. Advice I mostly ignore.
Okay so January 20th might feel like a gloomy day when we feel a bit blue and we are wondering whether we will get that promotion, or meet the partner of our dreams, or worrying about how to solve a problem, and questioning the meaning of life, our purpose, what’s the point, and why there’s no money in our bank account, why is Christmas so expensive?
Take a leaf out of the beautiful soul on the Temperance Card. She stands with one foot in her emotions and one on dry land, grounded, she cools the impatient emotions of her heart, and waits for Divine Guidance. She is expectant and holds an inner strength and intention that her hopes will unfold in due course. She can wait, she trusts the universe has its mysterious ways and will deliver a new dawn.
Temperance cools the emotions of her heart and holds a space for possibility.
She holds the space in which potential lies.
Take a moment. Sit on a bench on your way to work. One minute will do it, or two. And look around at the world around you. It may be the highlight of your day a. because of its unusualness. and b. you learn something c. it might make you smile. For lack of a bench, put your iPhone away and look around you, look up at the sky
