Tarot reading for Guidance

Even a two card tarot reading can give you the guidance you need…

Ever sat there reflecting on a situation, not able to quite put your finger on what happened, what went wrong, what went right, and how to process the whole incident, what to learn from it, how to respond in the future? Times when you have mixed feelings you can’t quite work out what to do with?

I had such a situation this weekend, and so ever conscious also, of what to write for the blog, I pulled two cards.

The first one was the King of Cups.  I have a bit of an ambivalent relationship with the King of Cups, partly influenced by my teacher, who spoke of the king of cups as someone with too many feelings, and because Kings like to be in control, it can make him/her/they feel vulnerable, and possibly lash out because of emotional overload, someone who feels emotionally at sea, not sure how to cope with all the emotions floating about…

You can see the King of Cups is sitting on his throne being rather tossed about by the sea…..his emotions.

There is a further understanding I have come to, based on the idea in Tarot that all Kings are masters of their domain, whether wands, pentacle, swords or cups.  With cups representing Emotion…it makes sense that if you are the King of the emotional domain, you will not only have great emotional IQ but therefore command over your own emotions….And this is the way I describe the King of Cups on a good day.

However the downside remains, even as the King of emotions, and emotional wisdom in general, when it comes to ourselves, in our own intimate relationships, families, too much emotion is still a trigger.

There’s another aspect to the King of Cups and Emotional IQ, which is a desire to valuing everyone’s emotions equally. Wanting everyone to be equal.  Which of course we are.  But because of society, and because of how we feel about ourselves, treating everyone equally doesn’t work.  Which is another conundrum for the King of Cups, because he wants to be open about his feeling and others to be open about theirs.    Without getting upset.  Except too many feelings are bound to make you feel out of control, and vulnerable, and possibly lash out?!

You can see my ambivalence and confusion when drawing the king of cups as my first card.

There is no question the King exactly reflected my feelings.  Feeling at sea, with a lot of emotions all over the place.   The weekend had been a bit of an emotional roller coaster, with very happy times, and many wobby times….

So I stared at it unhappily.  Absorbing both moments when I had used emotional IQ, and moments when I had lashed out…..unhappily.  Understanding also that the card perfectly reflected the way my sister had felt.

And so I pulled a second card, as a sort of advice card.  What to do, what to learn and pulled the 9 of cups.

The nine of cups knows how to make themselves happy.  They understand pleasure (see blog July 22, 2023) and yes they have to be careful not to be superficial and over indulge.

So which meaning do I take with that card?!?

Both.  Make yourself happy, enjoy the pleasures of life.  (You can’t make others happy (all of the time) however do what makes you happy) but don’t indulge.

I also think perhaps it’s a nudge to not over indulge in too much emotion/analysing/labelling about the whole event?

Anyway back to Battersea after a beautiful Seaview weekend where I hope the tarot readings scheduled for tomorrow will bring my clients the comfort, reassurance, inspiration, guidance and insight they are looking for.
