How a Tarot reading can help you avoid falling into old habits….
Forewarned is forearmed, people often say, and it could not have been truer from me when I pulled two cards to take a look at what to expect on my return home from a wonderful holiday…..
You only have to look at my Instagram post of 29th August to see the horror I felt when I pulled cards on ‘what next’ and got the 5 of pentacles.
What I didn’t say in the post was that the five of pentacles had fallen out of the pack when I was shuffling, I quickly put it back, thinking I hope that’s not a sign! As very often in tarot readings when a card falls out, it is well worth taking note of the card because invariably it gives an indication of the tone of the reading.
The FIVE OF PETACLES!? I thought feeling wonderful about life after ten days of fun adventure sunshine friends laughter…..you just have to look at the picture of the 5 of pentacles to get the picture. I stuffed in back in the pack and shuffled thoroughly and spread the cards out. Carefully tuning in…..I picked the five of pentacles. Again!
Two, what looks like beggars are outside, it’s dark and they look cold and it’s snowing. In the background there’s the glow of a stained glass window. These folks are clearly not only literally feeling ‘out in the cold’, but are also outside the congregation looking in. The five of pentacles speaks of moments when we might feel isolated or impoverished. I quite often see this card for single women who are not married and feeling left out as their friends are getting married and having children. The advice is always, you need to look at things differently, you need to go into community and ask for help if need be, at least say hello and be part of things.
I knew there was a probability I was going to feel the loss of Trumpet, and the emptiness of the flat without him welcoming me home, and so on reflection getting the 5 of pentacles was understandable, but depressing to receive. I really needed another card to help me understand a bit more about what might happen and I pulled the 8 of wands. Whether I took the card as an advice card, or whether I took the card as don’t worry lots of people are going to get in touch and you’ll get back into the flow of life easily, I took it as an advice card!
I know myself, and I have often come back from holidays and not picked up the phone to say I’m back to friends, especially on day one, I’m never sure who to call first, the hesitating continues on day 2, and before long I haven’t picked up the phone and had any lively conversations with friends, telling them about my time and hearing about theirs, and sure enough after a couple of days I’ve forgotten the fun I had and am beginning to feel isolated?! I have done this many times.
So the day I returned, I went against my normal reticence and was on the phone, sending texts, and as a result have had lots of fun conversations, am off to the movies with friends tomorrow, my god daughter is coming up to London on Friday, we’re going to have a day taking the kids on the uber clipper and the London Eye, and many tarot readings with interesting people. So it’s been a happy re-entry to every day life. As I write, day 3 I took our early morning walk in remembrance of Trumpet, talked to friends in the park about him and received their kind condolences and could feel my energy rise and restore.
I often pull one card. I am so glad I pulled two because it helped me handle the situation in the best way. Three days back and am feeling happy and back in the flow of life. It could have been so different.
