The World in a tarot reading signifies completion.
Every now and then in life you get a moment of perfection. A moment when you feel blessed with an awareness of the magic in life and your place in it. A feeling that you are in the right place at the right time and everything falls into place. A moment of completion; of perfection; of gratitude.
That’s how I felt today when my client drew the tarot card ‘The World’. Not just because the meaning of the card was an affirmation for that her intended action would give her a feeling of completion, and remind her that she is whole in herself, enough, complete, not dependent on anyone, a moment when your place in the world makes sense and your heart sings ..but because I had the privilege of guiding her to that moment.
For a tarot reader every now and then you feel privileged to read for someone because they come with such integrity and sincerity the cards respond accordingly. When she pulled the World my heart sang, in fact I could feel tears of gratitude well up (almost) into my eyes. I managed to restrain myself because it was her moment. And mine.
The illustration shows a woman in the centre of the World surrounded by the wreath of success. In all four corners of the card are the fixed signs of Leo, Taurus, Scorpio, Aquarius, representing the four elements, earth, air, fire, water. She is in the centre of her world, she is complete, supported by all four corners but not dependent on them.
It’s easy to use a Tarot reading superficially and indeed I always talk about it being fun. But there’s a difference between approaching a reading with lightness and fun and superficiality. There’s a difference between looking for insight so that You can make the right decisions for your life, and expecting the tarot to tell you what you should be doing. Who wants their future predicted, surely we want insight and information that helps us create the life we desire.
I quite understand people who come to readings expecting the tarot reader to tell you something they couldn’t have known about you without you saying. I certainly remember a reading when I sat there arms crossed saying (to myself) ok you show me. I’m not going to respond YOU are the tarot reading you are supposed to tell me.
Wrong. And I missed an opportunity. I remember saying afterwards well he got some things right but they were so general they could apply to anyone. Healthy scepticism is understandable. Tarot is magic and it’s magic is happening in the energy between and around us. The full engagement of both parties makes all the difference. Also something I feel strongly, when we verbalise our own interpretation of the cards and how they reflect us, the understanding is deeper. Its quite easy after a full season if a tarot reader has most of the talking for you to walk out going wow that was amazing and a day later have forgotten most of it. Agreed it takes some of the mystery out of it, if I coax you to speak what is in your heart, but I’ve had many moments of beautiful syncronity and emotional release when a client has finally said what they really want and for me that is so powerful for them. As I remember only too clearly when I finally said out loud what I daren’t even imagine was possible for me, be a writer and producer of tv sitcom…..once I said it all made sense and off I went on a mission, I was unstoppable, it was hard and took at least a couple of years to begin to achieve…but from that day on I know that whatever you dare to say…and commit to…..As Goethe’s famous quote goes…
Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness.
Concerning all acts of initiative and creation there is one elementary truth the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans; that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then providence moves too.
All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favour all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance which no man could have dreamed would have come his way.
Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, and power and magic in it. Begin it Now.
Goethe
Some tarot reading have great moments like these, when the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, the synchronicity and profound wisdom imparted is perfection.
