The Nine of Cups has a good time…
He knows how to make himself HAPPY.
I pulled the Nine of Cups as my/our/ advice/insight card for the Full Moon in Aries. Yesterday 17th October. On such a dazzling beautiful sunny and warm day amongst a slew of grey rainy ones this jolly card seemed to match the mood of the weather. Although with everyone talking about the power of this Beaver Full Moon in the sign of Aries and Aries known for their forthright dynamism and drive (my sign) I was slightly taken aback by receiving such a cheerful and rather light weight card.
The Nine of Cups is all about making yourself happy. Being satisfied with life. At its best. It’s before the 10 of cups which is about emotional fulfilment for yourself and others. At the 9 level we are being reminded that in order to make others happy at the 10 level, we need to know how to make ourselves happy. What I love about the Nine of Cups is how satisfied he looks. He knows how to enjoy the pleasures of life. As on this full moon day, the dazzling blue sky, the sunshine, plants and nature and birds outside, what’s not to love about life? The ability to enjoy and find satisfaction in the everyday pleasures of life is a key skill. Feeling satisfied with yourself is a super skill in my book. As an Aries I am constantly driven by what I want to learn, do, achieve, it is exhausting. And so I am taking it, as lighten up, there is so much to be satisfied about.
At it’s less positive it can be about over being a bit self indulgent, being a bit superficial when we act happy and cheery to hide emotions we’d prefer not to show. Spot the blue curtain behind the bon viveur with nine full cups lined up in front of him, he looks so pleased with himself …is there something hidden behind the curtain?
Fake it to Make it is one of the things I find myself discussing with clients when it comes up as an advice card. I have a wonderful example of this when a client had written a strongly critical letter to voice his disappointment in a friendship but not sent it and he pulled the 9 of cups as an advice card. It pulled him up short thank goodness and instead he wrote a fun happy note (yes definitely superficial) and didn’t tackle the issue head on. His friend responded immediately, delighted to hear from him and the rest as they say…is history. A massive turn around happened in the situation and things worked out for the best for both! If he’d sent that letter it would have been a very different story! A definite ‘fake it to make it’ example.
As I write and still ponder this card. I know I have been feeling decidedly dissatisfied about life. And taking things far too seriously. So here’s to ‘LIGHTENING UP’! and being satisfied, satisfied by our lot. Deep Sigh of Satisfaction. And again. Especially with everything else going on around us.
