The King of Cups in an emotional Tarot Reading suggests turmoil…

The King of Cups sits on a throne floating in a turbulent sea.  He is literally ‘at sea’.

This king is floating in a turbulent sea. He doesn’t look that confident holding up one cup floating along on his stone throne.

It’s not fun for this King, because all Kings like to be in control.  After all they are naturally kings of their domain.  Wands for creativity and inspiration, Pentacles for money health and practical matters,  Swords for Truth, the mind and intellect.  All these kings have consummate skills in their domain.

And yet when it comes to the King of Cups, he is depicted sitting on a throne floating in a turbulent sea.  A turbulent sea of emotions. At his best this King has an exceptional understanding of emotions, his and others.  He has very high E.Q.  Except, when the king of cups has too many emotions, he might feel overwhelm and even vulnerable. Which goes against the grain if you are a king. Kings are Kings.  They need to be in control, they don’t like feeling vulnerable and emotionally at sea.  So watch out, as they can lash out on those occasions just because it’s all a bit much.

If you receive the King of Cups in a reading it either signifies a time when you are going to have to use all your emotional maturity to manage what is going on around you emotionally.  Or it can reflect your emotional maturity; someone deeply emotional able to bring emotional wisdom and depth to any situation and from time to time manage your own emotions when having to ride the waves.

I sometimes feel emotions are like the wind, they blow in and blow out.  One day I may feel overwhelmed and anxious, the next sunny and relaxed.  For no good reason that I can fathom.  Sometimes it isn’t worth trying to find a reason, better to say, hey I’m feeling ‘emotional’, it is what is is, no need to name, judge or try to change and then somehow it passes or I get distracted by life. I am reminded of the saying ‘what you resist, persiststs”

Good luck everyone as we are all going through strong emotionally chaotic times.  Very King of Cups!  My friend and mentor Meredith Young Sowers has some lovely advice for keeping centred in emotion times.

‘When thoughts, emotions, mind, dart from one to another, place your hands on your deep heart and connect to quiet peaceful knowing.’

Alan Watts also has a view about over thinking…

A person who thinks all the time has nothing to think about except thoughts. So he loses touch with reality and lives in a world of illusions."

Do come and have a reading in person in battersea or online via zoom WhatsApp or FaceTime. Especially when you are feeling a bit emotionally ‘at sea’.
