The Devil in a tarot reading
Whey hey the card for Thursday 24th November 2022, Thanksgiving, is The DEVIL.
Passion, desire, obsession, addiction….ATTACHMENT!
I was rather hoping the Tarot would give us say the Six of Pentacles, the card of reciprocity, of giving and sharing, as you sow so you shall reap, after all it is Thanksgiving!
But no we got the Devil.
Firstly, If you are madly in love and in the first flush of passion with someone or just full of excitement about life in general….then Bravo, what a wonderfully energising alive place to be. The most positive aspect of the Devil.
However, if you are feeling anything like me, a bit obsessed, a bit crazed…..about work, time, Christmas, Christmas parties, Christmas shopping, too much to do, too little time, too much you want but don’t have, a little jealousy driving us perhaps….I totally relate.
Trying to engage with Instagram, I found myself feeling rather envious of other’s lives. A young friend held a celebratory dinner and it was all over Instagram, wonderful and glamorous pictures of her, her friends, family, all fabulously dressed, all beautiful….I wasn’t there…and would never look so good….did I feel myself a bit in Devil territory? Yes.
Jealousy is actually an aspect of the Devil and a bit of a default position of mine…I deny it of course but I’ve always had the habit of comparing myself with others, being competitive, wanting to be popular, better, best etc….
It is a hellava driver in our society. And therefore a driver of I’m not good enough, I feel left out, I’m not achieving what others are; all our limiting beliefs, and here we are in another cycle of addiction. The dodgy aspect of the Devil.
We all know the feeling, and if you don’t then I salute you, and am jealous of you.
So the antidote to The Devil. Is DETACHMENT…
Now I am all for desire and passion, I actually believe following your passion is the art of living. However in Devil territory, attachment to our desires and expectations gets a bit addictive…..and what we ultimately want is FREEDOM, especially from any limiting beliefs, habits or obsessive expectations.
So today Go for it, follow your passion….but don’t get obsessed.
And practice a little detachment from any habits that don’t do us justice.
I am about to take a walk in the park with Trumpet and do some deep breathing, perhaps I’ll add a few ‘Oms’ and swing my arms about and stride out with a big smile (oh yes a smile is the quickest way to freedom) admire the trees, the leaves all golden and crispy on the floor, well a bit soggy actually. And perhaps listening to Michael Jackson. Each to their own, he makes me want to dance. And I’ll try to remember to give myself breaks during the day when I get ‘caught up’ again and I’ll stand up, raise my arms above my head and shake it all out. Or do the ‘blow out’ a marvellous exercise in Energy Medicine for getting rid of devilish thoughts.
Good luck today everyone ….and choose PASSION and FREEDOM.
