Reading a two card spread

This week’s two card tarot reading starts with the Eight of Cups.

The eight of cups shows a man in a red cloak walking away from 8 cups that are all standing. His path is lit up by the light of a full moon.

eight of cups tarot card

This card represents coming to a crossroads and deciding to leave what we have enjoyed, are familiar with, and move forward in a slightly different direction, to follow our passion.

I often interpret the eight cups left standing as having come to terms with emotional aspects of our lives and ready to move on.  The cups haven’t fallen over, as in the five of cups, whereby there is an unresolved sense of emotions being spilled, sadness and disappointment. Here I like the idea that we’ve resolved or accepted emotional disappointments, hence moving forward leaving all the cups standing suggesting we have taken the learning or gift out of our emotional experiences.

As I looked at it, I felt I was being encouraged to follow a new direction, and leave behind other things I have enjoyed.  That I was at a crossroads and it was the right time to concentrate on my ‘passion’. Often in a tarot reading there’s a feeling of needing to move forward in a slightly different direction not because you don’t like the past but because things need to be different in order to fulfil our desire.  Under the light of a silvery moon suggests that perhaps we are not even full conscious of what we desire. Immediately my mind went to ‘the book’, to whether there is a book in these blogs, a work book or a Journal on the  subject of ‘reading tarot for yourself’.

the sun tarot card

‘Radiating’ Energy, rather than ‘RadiaNting’ Energy, in order to materialise out into the world

So I was curious to see the second card, which I describe as a clarification card. It was the Sun.  The Sun ultimately encourages us to manifest what we want out into the world.  The sun epitomises Energy, the energy that brings positivity and enthusiasm. A naked child sits on a white stallion with no hands heading away from a grey wall. The heads of giant sunflowers are all facing toward the child who holds up a great red (although it looks brown in the pic above) swirling flag that billows by his side. A giant sun beams its rays across the sky upon him.    There’s an innocence and purity in this image which suggests we don’t have to know exactly how to do this, but to radiate the marvellous energy of positivity, of sunshine and sunflowers riding away on a white stallion.

The Eight of Cups and The Sun two card tarot reading.

In a nutshell this two card reading says you’ve come to a crossroads (nothing wrong with the past particularly) it’s just that it is time to take a different direction to follow your passion. Feel the energy and positivity of the Sun to help you materialise what you desire out into the world.
