Reading a four card Tarot spread

Today a daily reflection card developed into a four card Tarot reading.

I pulled the first card asking for help to change a habit that I could well do without. It goes like this, a gin & tonic aroung 6 pm and probably 3 glasses of wine over the evening and falling asleep in front of the TV. Last night it was 10 minutes before the gripping ending of a six part series (which has taken me three nights to watch) the Night sleeper.  Is the train going to crash or not.  Well obviously not. But I don’t know as I nodded off.

First card….The Tower

the Tower tarot card

A short sharp shock, the Tower crashes because it's foundations are dodgy.

First thoughts. The foundations upon which this situation is built is crumbling. Has crumbled. You better jump out of the building.

Well it was certainly a bit of a short sharp shock pulling this card.

I pulled the card asking for insight and help to break this habit…is this card describing the habit or my thinking? My thinking because I see the Tower a lot in readings and find it is often more about the person needing to re look at their preconceived ideas of situation, the basis of their thinking is flawed. They need to reconsider the edifice of their ideas. There is a crack in the foundations that needs addressing.

The good news about the Tower is, once you’ve torn down this edifice, something fundamental, you can rebuild firmer foundations really quickly.   The Star, bright hopes and new prospects follows the Tower.   Once the rubble has been cleared (I do apologise for all the poor metaphors) there’s a clearing for new possibility.

Am I catastrophising?  or this a catastrophe? Clearly the foundations of this habit is dodgy. Still unsure about which way to interpret the Tower, perhaps it meant the idea of being able to ‘change’ the habit is faulty!

I pondered it, and decided ok, I need an advise card, that will help me understand which it means.

And I pulled the three of cups.

2nd card in the spread Three of Cups...

I’m sorry there are three girls holding three cups (of wine) up in the air and dancing.  They are celebrating friendship, life, connection, being alive.

Hmm…..certainly felt to me that having a drink with pals was being encouraged….i mean the tarot would have come up with a better card if it was just saying, connect to nature.   I might have got the three of swords. Delaying gratification in this case. Or the four of swords, take time out…

My next thought was well ok but what about drinking alone and falling asleep in front of the TV and feeling tired the next morning.

And I pulled the five of cups.  Cups again, only this time a rather depressed looking character in black looking at three cups spilled, and ignoring two cups that are standing behind him.

Again staring at the card, besides thinking drinking alone looks depressing and sad….(there’s a lot more I could say about the five of pentacles for example it suggests focussing on past emotional hurts) I couldn’t help noticing THREE glasses of wine, were spilled, but that behind him TWO cups were standing.

The tarot has a funny way on occasion of giving you a literal picture that has meaning for you, Perhaps the image endorsed my view that two cups of an evening when alone is an option I am not looking at?

Again I stared at the whole spread and asked the Tarot for a support card that would help me a. trust my interpretation

b. support for two glasses

and I pulled the Queen of Pentacles.  Queen of hearth and home, she is very productive and practical and brings value.  She understands what people need and what is needed to make things happen.

four card tarot spread

The four card spread.  The Tower, Three of Cups, Five of Cups, Queen of Pentacles.

Which I read as if I follow the insight of this tarot reading I’ll be more Queen of Pentacles, be more productive, have more time to write, do Instagram, newsletters, write the book, not saying mine yet as don’t know much about it.  I also like the inference of Home too.  I like being Home.  Especially when it is organised and clean and cosy.   A place where I can be productive as there is much I want achieve still and enjoy.

On reflection I was awfully glad I didn’t get the Devil! or too many self sabotage cards, like the 5 of swords, or 8 of swords. The Tarot can be kind like that and the reading has left me with quite clear and practical advice.

Let’s see how I go and wish me luck.  Meanwhile do come and have a tarot reading with me in Battersea or online.   So often my clients say they leave a reading feeling so much lighter with a new spring in their step, a smile on their lips. More clarity brings more confidence and optimism.
