Can Tarot Answer Yes or No Questions?

Can the Tarot answer yes or no Questions?

I was recently asked to be the Tarot Reader at a pop-up fashion event. (lone star design club)event.  It didn’t take long before a long queue formed ….and I knew I was only going to be able to give very short readings. Left with half an hour to go, I had to ask people to narrow their reading down to one question.

And having always said it’s not a good idea to ask the Tarot questions with a yes or no answer,  I decided to play with it a bit, after all we were at a party.

I found just one card didn’t give a definite yes or no, but it did give lots of information to help answer the question and be able to make a decision.

So I thought I’d try it on myself for this blog.

My question?  Shall I do a qi gong course?  Just one card.

And I got the Nine of Cups.

Definitely not a yes or no answer.

The nine of cups has always had mixed messages for me, on the one hand the rather jolly man with a big red hat on a bright yellow card, with nine cups behind him gives the air of a bon viveur, someone who really enjoys life.   Which is great.  However there is always the other side to consider about a bon viveur; he love pleasure so much, he has a tendency to overindulge?

In the pure sense, and on the journey of the Cup suit in Tarot, which represent our emotional journey and growth.  Coming after the 8 of cups, when you’ve come to a crossroads in your life, and leaving 8 cups standing, which suggests no hurt feelings, you decide its time to move on, in order to follow your passion.  So the 9 of cups is when you learn what makes you personally happy ….what gives you pleasure, enjoy life….before moving on to the 10 of Cups when happiness includes ourselves, others, family, friends, reflecting emotional fulfilment.

With the 9 of cups being about making oneself happy (on the way to the 10) it’s easy to see how an element of overindulgence and possibly selfishness might creep in.  After all pleasure is so seductive. It’s easy to want more of a good thing. Still pleasure mixed with selfishness and indulgence?  Indulgence mixed with pleasure?

There can be a tinge of superficiality associated with this card. For instance if someone gets this card for a job they are considering, there’s the feeling that it won’t really stretch them, it won’t be very challenging.

Equally I’ve read this card in many spreads when it absolutely acknowledges the gift of the nine of cups, learning to make yourself happy, finding the pleasure and enjoying life, after all making yourself happy comes first and then you are able to make others happy.

Even so I did find myself wondering what is hidden behind the blue curtain under which the cups are standing?

All of these ideas and thoughts were brought to my question and after a lot of pondering, it wasn’t difficult to recognise my interest was a tad superficial and that taking another course (I do like learning) would more likely be a distraction to the practice I am already practicing which includes Qi Gong…..

I didn’t think it was going to be the answer to what is hidden behind the curtain either.

So asking a yes or no question has given me far greater insight and reflection than if hadn’t asked the question.  It could have gone either way, however it helped me decide what is truthful for me.   The next question is…..am I going to act?

A tarot reading may not answer all your questions but it will certainly give you some great insight and help you decisions that are ‘right for you’. Visit me in Battersea or online.
