3. Making a start. A fun adventure...
After pulling the Hermit I thought what about pulling a card for how to read your own tarot?
And I pulled The Fool
A brand new journey. Reading your own Tarot. You couldn’t make it up. The Fool is the first card of the major Arcana. He sets off on a new journey with all the enthusiasm and trust of someone who doesn’t have the skills or know the potential hazards of the journey, he feels excited and fearless, he strides out with his faithful dog at his side, facing the unknown with a jaunty spring in his step. It is a wonderful image to embody, going forth dressed in bright colours with only his optimism and trust to guide him on this journey of self discovery.
To start reading Tarot for yourself I recommend pulling daily reflection cards just for the fun of it. With no expectations and a sense of curiosity and exploration.
You may want to built a little ritual that gives your practice more intention by lighting a candle or saying a little prayer or affirmation. I tend to do it after my morning qi breathing medication as I imagine my energy is more settled and clear, but there are no rules.
Most important is looking at the card. There are so many images and colours and symbols that will speak to you. The trick is to follow your natural instincts and intuition about how the card applies to your life in this moment. Does it reflect a situation or perhaps give advice. What meaning does it bring to you, make you think about? Especially to start with you may not know, hold all your thoughts and impressions lightly and go about your day. Often you will find a situation may occur that seems to apply to the card. I see the daily reflection card as a lens through which to bring more consciousness to my day.
Reading tarot for yourself is going to open you up to a brand new journey of trusting yourself and the universe. The more you practice the more you develop your own intuition and trust that the Tarot is a wise friend and guide.
If I look back the tarot has been beside me slowly guiding and encouraging me to live day by day to live authentically and follow my dreams. The tarot encouraged me to become a professional tarot reader….it was the last thing on my mind, and for which I am so grateful. Plus the friend who decided to build me a website for my birthday!
And journaling has been an invaluable tool to deepen my understanding of tarot and myself. I can’t recommend it more highly, especially if you are single, or live alone, as we don’t have the friend, partner, to chat to about our day, or about our anxiety when we first wake up. Allow the tarot to become your friend and sounding board. It is a two-way street. You look at the card and respond. it is in your own natural response that you will find the answers for yourself. The joy for me was I needed to blog for my website, which you can visit and see how I interpreted cards and so many instances when the tarot guided and advised me.
