How to step into a new cycle….
The Tower!!! was the first card I pulled in my ‘Navigating the Threshold spread’!
Are your plans built on firm foundations?
‘A sudden sharp shock that pulls the rug from under your feet’ is a very good description of how I felt looking at that card that represented my present situation ! OMG the Tower for my present situation!
My mind instantly flew to where might my thinking or ideas be dodgy? Where are the cracks in the foundations? Where might the rug have been pulled from under me and preconceived ideas tossed up in the air? And what kind of clarity is being revealed from a thunderbolt of lightning (brutal)
I could instantly identify a few dodgy areas in my foundations….
Would the rest of the reading tell me more about them?
My first mind map of a tarot card! that describes the Tower!!
The second card, represents what we can harvest, a golden nugget that supports us ….The Page of Cups.
what message is this fish attempting to offer?
The Page of cups wears his heart on his sleeve is idealistic, romantic, naive, a poet, painter, a bit of a dreamer.
My first thought was how is someone as youthful and dreamy as the page of cups going to help counter such a dramatic situation as the Tower? I always associate immaturity, playfulness, the inner child with this card. And hope. Given the rather gloomy nature of most of the other cards in the spread (see below, until thank goodness I come to the three of pentacles, which ironically represents building firm foundations on which to grow and flourish! ) and very glad that the page of cups offers hope and possibility!
How might this page of cups help me harvest the good out of this situation? the card speaks of new emotional beginnings, intuitive messages, creative inspiration and urges us to be open to new ideas and to keep our heart open and be hopeful.
A message of hope and possibility
So taking the advice of the page of cups I decided to be a bit playful and creative and decided to try to do a mind map of the Tower, above, the first I’ve ever tried, even though i’ve often thought of telling stories with thought bubbles and cartoon characters…perhaps there’s the beginning of a creative idea that will renew my love of tarot or rather how I give more fulfilling readings (one of the dodgy areas that need addressing) as well as spending more time being creative, writing, painting (2nd dodgy area) !
The Threshold Tarot reading….
This is the spread to see what guidance the Tarot can offer as we prepare to step over the Threshold from summer to autumn, from one season to the next …..this one for me on the kitchen table.
The Tower - where I am, present situation, right now
The Page of cups - what supports us, what golden nugget can be harvested
The five of Cups - what to let go of.
The Hanged Man - where to focus your energy
The Six of Swords - unforeseen helpful influence
The Nine of Swords - best course of action, best way to step over threshold into the new year
three of pentacles - where it will lead.
Basically the readings says,
present. you need to check your foundations, there’s something that needs attention, otherwise everything will crash to the ground.
2. Your gift is in being creative, playful, idealistic responsive to your dreams, creative, start new creative projects…
playing with a mind map of page of cups….unsuccessful
3. Let go of dwelling§ on the past, dwelling on spilled milk, being miserable about what didn’t go right, or hurt, and focus on the two full cups in front of you
4. Embrace ‘letting go’, shedding what no longer serves, even if that feels like a sacrifice, just surrender, there may be a short term price for long term enlightenment.
5. Unforeseen helpful influence this is a transition, perhaps someone will help you across this threshold, more likely that someone will be yourself. Yes you’ve learned and gone through hard lessons but you are now able to move on, to cross over the river and get to the other side with the wisdom from those experiences.
6. best course of action, instead of stressing, address the recurring thoughts that keep you awake. Don’t try to avoid them. Face them. No pain no gain and if the Hanged Man has any advice, this will involve surrendering habits and thoughts that no longer serve, but which you may feel like a sacrifice! but will be for your good and long term enlightenment.
7. Where it’s leading….firm foundations from which you can grow and flourish. Consider collaboration and making plans to build the foundations you want.
Quite a severe reading wouldn’t you say. But truthful and helpful. Let’s see how I do? Possibly more in the next blog.
Do come and have a tarot reading with me in Battersea or online. Let’s try this tarot reading spread as it’s been revelatory for me! part 2 to follow as this blog is quite long enough.
