Kindness in a Tarot reading…..
I wrote about the five of cups a few blogs back…..and yesterday the same card came up in a virtual tarot reading. I was sitting in Battersea, my client in Belgium. It was an advice card. A man in a black cloak stands gloomily looking at three cups spilled while two full cups stand behind him. The message of the card seems straight forward. Stop looking at the three spilled cups. Turn around and appreciate the two full cups standing in front of you. Practice gratitude. Gratitude always helps.
However recently I have become more conscious of my tendency to reference the three spilled cups in my life. Spilling much that was on offer, and wasting so much time. The elixir of life was in those cups, and I spilled three of them, and all the elixir has seeped into the ground. It seems feelings of regret can run deep.
The saying ‘don’t cry over spilled milk’ perfectly reflects the advice of the five of cups. Except, feelings of regret, sadness, shame, and what might have been, can be overwhelming. And that’s how my client was feeling. So suggesting she practice being grateful was not what she needed to hear.
How do you overcome feelings of regret? It turns out you don’t overcome them.
I also practise Qi Gong, and part of the practice includes a meditation where you place your attention on an organ for healing. And just that morning I had ‘worked’ with the lungs. The lungs as I understand it hold the energy of sadness, and regret. In the meditation the guidance is '‘Become aware of the sadness in your lungs and in your life. Feel the sadness melt and transform into kindness. Let kindness heal your lungs”.
Kindness.
Kindness is a lovely generous quality to feel. It brings a smile to the lips. And it doesn’t require any action. You don’t have to do anything. Or try to undo anything. You just have to remember to bring kindness to your heart and mind and let it soothe you.
Kindness, I am discovering is a magic ingredient. Being kind to yourself, the people in the street you meet (who are all suffering a sadness or regret, or might be) smile kindness at them, and receive a kind smile back even. When you are beating yourself up, stop and whisper ‘kindness’ to yourself. Smile at your mistakes. Be kind. It was the message my client needed to hear.
That’s what I love about reading Tarot and Tarot being part of my life. I am constantly amazed at the wisdom a reading can bring. The comfort and advice it can give. The kindness and how a tarot reading can bring a new awareness and personal growth that may change the course of a life. It is changing mine.
