The World in a tarot reading brings healing.

The final card of the Major Arcana, the World tarot card represents a moment of perfection, of completion.

I recently had to buy a new pack of tarot cards. The Page of Swords, had fallen out of my hand and down a tiny crack in the floorboards. After considering pulling up the floorboards, it occurred to me the card was from a generic Rider Waite pack, and therefore the simplest thing would be to just buy a pack from Amazon, remove the page of swords from the new deck and put it into mine.  And all will be well.  Except it arrived and the back was a slightly different shade of blue.

I considered pulling up the floorboards again, and then the obvious occurred, use the new pack.  Conscious that it hadn’t been bought with much ceremony,  I lit candles and gave the deck a good shuffle asking for them to be blessed with a prayer; that the cards would bring divine guidance for myself and my clients, and the wisdom and insight for healing.

So it was quite an occasion to see what card I would pull as my very first card.  I pulled it for us, for myself, in the context of reading Tarot with this new pack.

And I pulled the World.   I honestly felt blessed in that moment.

The woman in the middle of the card is surrounded by a huge wreath of success, the four fixed signs of the zodiac are her cornerstone.   She is complete, she is in the centre of her world, she belongs, a perfect moment when everything falls into place and she realises she is enough.  She is complete, whole.  A brief moment of perfection before we begin the cycle all over again!  Starting the heroic journey with the Fool, a brand new journey through all the ups and downs and insights, initiations, growth and learning till we get to the World again.

The World signifies a moment when you feel at one with the world, everything makes sense and your place in it, you feel complete, ENOUGH, at peace, in gratitude, deeply satisfied that you are here now.  In this moment.  It was a long lovely moment sitting in front of the cards, a tingling sweeping through my body, hands folded in prayer against my heart, thinking this tarot deck will bring healing.

Ultimately I consider Tarot to be a tool for healing. If healing is the opposite of dis-ease, then being at ease, at one with yourself, centred and whole describes what happens in a tarot reading. You arrive with questions, thoughts scattered, some confusion, doubt, anxiety.  You are not centred and feeling confident about where you are in life. More likely you are feeling discombobulated, not sure what to do, emotions are at odds with each other. A tarot reading can put you back together again.

A reading gives us the time to tune into ourselves, and to have an unbiased look at what’s going on via the cards. The images, stories, colour of the cards bring their own ideas and insight. During a reading everything is laid on the table, and reconfigured with fresh understanding and insight.  You know how to move forward.  You are confident about the direction to take.  A moment of wholeness.  You understand yourself and your situation. You have clarity.  And often along with this moment of realisation comes relief and gratitude.   Tarot fills me with gratitude so often.  I am still amazed at the kindness and encouragement a Tarot reading imparts. And it is a wonderful thing to experience at the end of a reading, fear and anxiety replaced with a smile and laughter, with ease. You feel whole. And that’s what is magnificent about Tarot, it restores us to ourselves, to optimism and gratitude, and to a certain amount of awe for the mysteries of life and how Tarot works.

From a personal point of view, I took The World to mean, whatever happens, remember, heart mind body and soul are one.  We are already whole, perfect. In this moment.
